Broken Borders by Emily Keyishian
Streaming through February 14th

This piece is an ongoing exploration of the story of my Grandparents on my father’s side experience of the Armenian Genocide and how that impacted our family growing up in NJ and NYC in the 70s and 80s. Framed within a trip to Turkey, my family took in December of 2024 to visit the village my Grandfather was expelled from. Hearing his perspective growing up of this utopia and the paintings his brother made, the experience of being the first to actually return to the village, and to try and imagine telling my grandfather and grandmother. This production is a combination of trying to find my way in the world as this multiethnic human, outsider everywhere, not finding any place to put down roots, and how that experience expresses itself in art as paint on canvas, and as an actor on stage embodying character.
